Gallatin Conservation Area

The Gallatin Conservation Area provides a refuge for bird watchers, nature lovers and anglers. The 26-acre site includes access to a quarter-mile stretch of the Roeliff Jansen Kill, a short walk from the new parking area. A one-mile walking loop trail was established in April 2022, leading visitors through a variety of ecotypes.

Following the yellow blazes counterclockwise, you’ll pass from a maple-dominated floodplain forest into an upland mixed hardwood forest that includes several specimen oaks, black cherries and shagbark hickories. Watch for ephemeral wildflowers in the spring and a variety of birds and other wildlife in all seasons.

The short trail is accessible to most activity levels, and dogs are welcome on a leash.

Parking for the conservation area is located at 124 Gallatinville Road (see map below).
